Share

Manchester United crowned the champion of the champions as they beat Liga de Quito by 1-0. Rooney scored the winning goal in the 73rd minutes.

The first half was finished as a goalless 45 minutes with United dominating the possession and creating many chances. But Liga de Quito's keeper save them from conceding any goal.

United started the second half in search of an early goal but they faced a blow as Vidic recieved direct red card for a silly mistake.

Sir Alex ferguson said after the match, "The collective spirit of the team won the day,"

"With 10 men we played with great expression and tried to win the match, which is a measure of the ambition of the players we have.

"After Vidic was sent off it was important that we didn't lose the ball. It was important to keep passing and hope Ronaldo or Rooney did something special."

And Rooney did something special when Ronaldo placed the ball for him and he finished it with a wonderful curly shot past the Quito keeper.

Ronney was overjoyed to score the winner for Manchester United.

"To be crowned the best in the world is a great achievement," he said.

"To score the winning goal in a match like this is a great feeling for me personally."

Vidic red card cause him a one match UEFA ban that means he will miss the tie against Inter Milan in february.
